Languedoc Vintage Wine Tours

Languedoc, South of France
Near Beziers, Montpellier & Carcassonne

In Languedoc Roussillon, at the heart of France's largest vineyard area, Le Château de Quarante, a refined and cozy Bed and Breakfast offers a fun filled and unpretentious introduction to wine appreciation.

Personally guided by your enthusiastic hosts, this guided Wine Tour planned around wine themes is nothing but a joyful escapade in Languedoc which proposes wine tasting opportunities, technical background tidbits, and informative visits to wine producers.

Laid back and congenial, this program is loosely structured to allow impromptu visits to wine events, wine fairs and festivals.

  • Daily informal discussions and lively debates touch on topics as diverse as wine history, the role of climate and soil in wine growing, hidden meanings behind label abbreviations, cooking with wine, and the impact of wine on our health.

The "French Paradox" is alive and well !

  • Field trips in a sun drenched ever changing landscape are meant to show off wine in its natural context, and to explore Languedoc through its rich wine making heritage dating back to Roman times . Depending on the wine or liqueur being discovered, excursions might include old Abbeys and castles having played a part in wine history.

Museums' ancient tools and artifacts bring old traditions back to life. Guided tours of large wineries and meetings with small wine producers take you to the very heart of wine making magic and mystery.

  • Wine tasting is essential to reinforce all that newly acquired knowledge, and help you discern a Corbières from a Coteaux du Languedoc, a Faugères from a Fitou and a Banyuls from a Saint Jean de Minervois.

There are 2 major approaches to wine tasting: the serious, concentrated effort which involves a lot of tongue twirling and spitting, and then, there is the approach we favor.

  • It consists in sharing a pitcher of the unassuming great little local wine over a simple but delightful lunch, then enjoying a touch of wine here and there with your newly found friends somewhere in a wine cellar, at the terrace of a quaint cafe or at a wine festival and keeping the best for last in the evening when you sip a Muscat or a Limoux sparkling wine for an apéritif, before opening that special bottle of Saint Chinian to accompany your gourmet dinner at the Château.

    No spitting.

    Join in the fun!

When you leave the Château de Quarante & Languedoc, you might not be a confirmed wine connaisseur of vintages, crus, cépages and millésime, but you will look at life differently, Santé!
